If you suffer an allergic reaction after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, it is recommended not to apply the second dose.

Information about COVID-19 vaccines for allergy sufferers

The vaccine is suitable. An allergic reaction is serious if a person needs to be treated with EpiPen ©, epinephrine, or admitted to the hospital. Experts call severe allergic reactions anaphylaxis. Immediate allergic reactions occur within 4 hours of vaccination and can include hives, inflammation, and trouble breathing. 


If you are allergic to any ingredient in the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine

If you have had a severe or immediate allergic reaction to any ingredient in a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine, you should not receive a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine currently available (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna ).


If you have had an immediate or severe allergic reaction to any of the Johnson & Johnson / Janssen (J & J / Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine components, you should not receive the J & J / Janssen vaccine. 


If you cannot receive an mRNA vaccine against COVID-19 because you are allergic to some, ask your doctor to see if you can get another type of vaccine against COVID-19.


You have had an allergic reaction to a previous injection of an mRNA vaccine.

If you cannot receive the second dose of an mRNA vaccine because you are allergic to the first dose, ask your doctor if you should receive another type of COVID-19 vaccine.


If you are allergic to polyethylene glycol (PEG) or polysorbate.

PEG and polysorbate are related. PEG is a component of mRNA vaccines, and polysorbate is a component of the J&J / Janssen vaccine.


If you are allergic to PEG, it is not recommended that you get a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. Ask your doctor if you can get the J&J / Janssen vaccine.


If you are allergic to polysorbate, you should not get the J&J / Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. Ask your doctor if you can get the COVID-19 vaccine from COVID-19 mRNA.


In case of being allergic to any other type of vaccine.

If you've had an immediate allergic reaction to a vaccine or injectable treatment for another disease, ask your doctor if you can get the COVID-19 vaccine. Your doctor will help you determine if it is safe to vaccinate.


In case you have allergies that are not related to the vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people get the vaccine even if they have a history of serious allergic reactions that are not related to vaccines or injectable medications such as food, pets, poisons, environmental allergies, or allergies. Latex should also be vaccinated. People who have a history of allergy to oral medications or a family history of severe allergic reactions can also be vaccinated.
