Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Coronavirus, simple and concrete!

What you need to know about Coronavirus: simple and concrete!

Coronavirus, simple and concrete!

To this day, there are still people who consider that Coronavirus is not classified as a pandemic, whether or not the topic is serious and real. This should not be underestimated. A pandemic is something that involves a continuous, active, and constant transmission in three or more different geographical regions.

However, there is no doubt that today we are facing a pandemic of concern, because every hour, the media, social network content, and daily conversations with family or friends are talking about the Coronavirus. Being prudent, protecting ourselves, and being cautious is the key, as well as keeping us informed of trustworthy media to make better decisions.

The most crucial recommendation for Coronavirus is simple:

More than anything else, protect older people. Because the COVID-19 is a unique virus in the sense that it is more lethal to the elders than to the youth. Studies and statistics on the actual real situation have revealed that people over 60 years old are MORE likely to suffer from a severe Coronavirus infection than other age groups, especially those with pre-existing medical conditions like diabetes, cancer, heart, or lung disease.

Keep you and your family safe!

  • Avoid crowded places and apply social distancing.
  • Wash your hands multiple times a day with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • After touching surfaces in public places, use 70% alcohol-based antibacterial gel to keep your hands clean.
  • Use your least prevalent hand when touching an exposed object such as a stair rail, a door handle, public transportation, etc. It is natural and by reflex that we touch our face with the hand, in this way we would do it with the one that is not infected.
  • Regularly clean surfaces that are frequently touched in your home.
  • Eat healthy to boost your immune system.
  • Limit alcohol and sugary drinks.
  • Don't smoke. It can increase your risk of getting seriously sick.
  • In case you can go outdoors, try to get out and walk your dog, run or ride your bike while keeping a safe distance from others.
  • Avoid meeting more people, inside or outside the home; especially temporarily completely avoid contact with seniors as grandparents.
  • Do exercise or keep yourself physically active for at least half an hour a day for adults and one hour a day for kids.
  • In case you can't get out of your house, do some yoga, dancing, or go up and down the stairs.
  • If you are working from home, try not to sit too long in the same position. Take a 3-minute break every 30 minutes.
  • Get your mind off of the crisis. Don't watch too much news. Get distracted by reading a book, listening to your favorite music, or play a game. Be creative!

Why is this virus getting so much attention?

COVID-19 is getting so much attention from the whole world because it is practically a new type of Coronavirus that has never been seen before in humans. People are mostly worried because we still don't know exactly how serious the disease is or how far it will spread.

How can I minimize the risk of infection?

  • Do not travel and avoid leaving your home unnecessarily for non-urgent activities or events.
  • Especially protect older people; remember that they are much more susceptible to suffer more severe symptoms.
  • Wash your hands often.
