Back Care at School

Back pain in children is a new modern problem among our children due to wrong use of backpack or activities that affect their spine; here we give you some tips to avoid severe injuries on your kids.

Back Care at School

Our children carry on a daily basis with books, notebooks, boxes, gym clothes and whatnot and they must take care of their back to avoid injuries!

Right position to take care of the back

Es necesario cuidar la postura desde pequeños para evitar una lesión a largo plazo

  • Keep your back straight: The back must be straight and making contact with the chair.
  • Do not bend: Don’t bend down at the desk, we should bring near the desk to the chair as much as needed.
  • Use a reading desk: If your child suffer from back pain it is recommended to use a reading desk, which improves the back position and prevents a major injury.

  • Flex your knees: Whenever your children are carrying a backpack with weight on their backs, they must flex their knees when trying to bend down or picking up something.

Characteristics of a good backpack

La mejor forma de cuidar la espalda del niño es dando buenos materiales como la mochila

  • Comfortable and adjustable to the height.
  • Light (empty, shouldn’t weight more than 1 kg.)
  • Wide suspenders: These must be at least 4 cm. on the shoulders to prevent friction and injuries.
  • Backrest and padded suspenders (anatomically made to adjust to their backs).
  • Pockets (these help to organize and distribute the weight).
  • Belt (buttoned on the front to lessen the weight on the shoulders and back)
  • Buckles (to regulate the backpack in the body)
  • Avoid Shoulder Bags (not recommendable at all, uneven the weight)
  • Wheeled backpack (helps to not carry the whole weight on the back)

The right way to carry the backpack

  • Strictly carry only the needed things.
  • Weight should not be more than 10% of children’s weight.
  • Always carry the backpack on both sides, never on one shoulder.
  • Heaviest things should be placed at the bottom of the backpack, near the back. Lighter pieces should be distributed on the pockets.
