Home Office: Nailed it!

8 steps to getting the job done and not getting distracted

Home Office: Nailed it!

The Home Office that a large part of the population is currently participating in is because of the Coronavirus crisis and is different from the regular Home Office that any freelancer practices. There are many more people at home sharing common spaces; there are restrictions and distracting factors.

It is a great challenge, but it is a gift because well done and trained you walk out of this process with new skills, you increase your productivity, and the loyalty that the employee has for the company increase. Besides, on a macro scale, we all benefit from less traffic, pollution, and of course to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

When we say it is a challenge, we mean that the concept of a house is designed to facilitate rest and coexistence for those who live there. It is not designed to promote productivity; however, this is not a definitive rule, and we can make it change, here you have eight steps to getting the job done and not getting distracted:

  • Begin your day early. Completing a project or task in the first hours of the morning will motivate you and be the key to continue making significant progress throughout the day.

  • Assign a workplace. That is exclusively for that purpose, and that is as professional as possible. Have the necessary work tools within reach. Your office space should promote efficiency in a non-traditional work environment.

  • Get out of your pajamas. And pretend you are really going to the office. Let your brain know you're in productivity mode. Being in pajamas is to let your brain know you're in a relaxed moment and not that you're producing. Put on shoes, perfume. Your mind will feel like you're going to your desk. Do all the things you would do on a typical office day: set your alarm, make coffee and wear nice clothes.

  • Create a routine. Set alarms to take short breaks to stretch, drink water or coffee, or walk around the house.

  •  Maintain a very fluid communicationThere is a work plan; there are schedules; there is a team outside that you work with. Agree on a frequency of communication with your bosses and colleagues.

  • Clean your workspace regularly. So that it doesn't look messy. Get rid of the objects you don't need, your mind will think more clearly. And don't forget to wash your hands!

  • Keep in mind the relevance of good light. Being in a place in the house near windows where there is natural light can impact the quality of your work because you will avoid headaches or burning eyes.

  • If possible, prepare your meals from the night before. Being at home is very tempting to be going to your refrigerator to see what else you can eat. Don't use office time on that, instead leave snacks and prepared food so you don't waste time distracting yourself on it.

  • Finally, what you want to avoid:

You did it! Enjoy doing Home Office, stay productive and active, take full advantage of the benefits of this opportunity, and the periods of time you would normally invest in moving to your job, this is your new office for now.
