Breast Augmentation, Is It For Me?

Have you been considering taking any steps to work on improving the balance of your figure? Breast Augmentation may be a good alternative for you!

Breast Augmentation, also known as Breast Implants or augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure for women who desire to:

  • Increase the volume, appearance, or plenty of the breast

  • Restore the size and shape of the breasts after pregnancy, weight loss, or breastfeeding

  • Restore symmetry when breasts are asymmetrical

  • Restoring the breast(s) after surgery, such as after Mastectomy for Breast Cancer

The surgeon places silicone or saline breast implants under the breast muscles or breast tissue.

Most common composite implants

Saline Breast Implants

Saline-filled implants are silicone cases filled with sterile salt water, known as saline. These implants are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for women 18 years and older who want breast augmentation.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone gel-filled implants are silicone cases filled with a flexible gel known as silicone. That's why it looks more like natural breasts. These implants are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for women 22 years and older who want breast enlargement.

The Result

Breast Augmentation changes the volume and appearance of your breasts.

Make an appointment with your Plastic Surgeon and discuss together all the options that adjust for you.

Although cosmetic surgery is something that can improve your body image and self-esteem, you must be aware that the breasts, like our whole body, will inevitably continue to age, so try to keep your expectations within a realistic plane.

The Recovery

After the surgery, the anesthesia effect will wear off, and your Doctor will tell you what painkillers to take for pain relief.

You must follow all the post-procedure instructions given by your Plastic Surgeon. Also, you attend all post-operative appointments with the Surgeon.

Eating light, healthy foods, drinking plenty of water, and wearing surgical bras and other appropriate clothing prescribed by your Surgeon will help. Your doctor may also advise you on some mild post-operative exercises that you can do to relieve discomfort, such as bending and moving your arms.

You must get the best possible information about your recovery before you leave the hospital to ask your PlasticSurgeon the following questions:

  • What is the proper way to care for my breasts after surgery?

  • How, and how often, should I take the prescribed medications?

  • When are my post-operative follow-up appointments?

  • How should I shower for the first few days?

  • How much recovery time should I have before returning to my normal activities?

  • What foods or drinks should I avoid?

  • When is it considered necessary for me to call a doctor immediately?

Some of the symptoms or signs that indicate you should seek medical help immediately after Breast Implant Surgery are

  • Fever

  • Warmth or redness in the chest area

  • Bleeding that won't stop

  • Fluid accumulation
